Neck Pain Treatment – Pain Management Clinic at Naturopath Osteopath Clinic

Osteopathy is a type of manual therapy that can help to relieve neck pain. Our osteopathy Clinic typically work with people who have pain in their musculoskeletal system, such as neck pain, back pain, and knee pain. They also work with adults and children who have chronic conditions such as Asthma, Crohn’s disease, or ADHD.

Our osteopathic practitioners use a variety of techniques, including massage, stretching, and joint mobilization, to improve blood flow and flexibility in the neck muscles and joints. In some cases, osteopathy may also help to reduce inflammation and tension in the muscles.

Neck pain is a common musculoskeletal condition that can be caused by many things, including muscle strain, poor posture, stress, arthritis, and whiplash. The pain can be located in the neck itself or it may radiate to the shoulders or down the arm.

Some people experience a tingling sensation or numbness in their arms. Severe neck pain can interfere with daily activities and sleep.

Symptoms of Neck Pain

Neck pain is a common problem, and can be relatively mild or severe. It often occurs when the neck muscles become tense.

Symptoms includes:

  1. Headaches,
  2. Fatigue and Pain,
  3. Muscle tightness and spasms
  4. Neck pain can also cause decreased ability to move the head or neck.

Common Causes of Chronic Neck and Back Pain

Chronic neck pain is a common condition that can be caused by a variety of factors. The most common cause of chronic neck pain is wear-and-tear on the facet joints or discs, which typically results from age. Other causes of chronic neck pain include cervical spine abnormalities, tumors, and infections. There are many treatments for chronic neck pain, and depending on the cause it may require surgery, medication, or a combination of both.

Cervical spine conditions tend to affect not only the neck but also the head, shoulders, or arms. These conditions include cervical spondylopathy, cervical stenosis, and cervical herniated discs. Cervical spine conditions can lead to a host of symptoms that vary depending on the location and severity of the condition. Other conditions include:

Cervical osteoarthritis:

Cervical osteoarthritis is a common condition that causes excessive friction in the neck’s facet joints, leading to neck pain and stiffness. Additionally, cervical osteoarthritis can cause decreased range of motion, numbness, and tingling in the arms and hands. If left untreated, cervical osteoarthritis can progress to more serious problems such as paralysis or death. Cervical osteoarthritis can also cause disability if it progresses. There are several treatments available for cervical osteoarthritis. Talk to our Osteopaths in Naturopath Osteopath Clinic.

Cervical Degenerative Disc Disease:

The condition is typically caused by the wear-and-tear on cervical spinal disc. Cervical discs are small, cushion-like cushions that sit between the vertebrae in the spine. They help support and protect the spinal cord. If a cervical disc becomes worn down over time, it can cause chronic neck pain. A low-level pressure within the disc can cause inflammation and pain. This can lead to chronic neck pain, which is often referred to as cervical radiculopathy. Cervical discs are located between the vertebrae in the neck.

Cervical Herniated Disc:

Cervical discs are small, cushioned disks that sit between the spinal cord and the vertebrae in the neck. When they become herniated (bulged), they can cause pressure on surrounding tissues and lead to pain, disability, and even paralysis. Cervical disc herniation is the most common type of spinal cord injury, occurring in about 25 percent of people over the age of 50.  Cervical disc herniation typically causes neurological pain in the shoulders and arms, as well as mild to moderate pain and stiffness in the neck.

Cervical Foraminal Stenosis:

Cervical foraminal stenosis is a condition that can cause nerve root compression. This can lead to symptoms such as numbness, tingling, weakness, and pain in the neck or arm. The condition may be caused by osteoarthritic bone spurs or a herniated disc. If left untreated, cervical foraminal stenosis can lead to paralysis.

Cervical Stenosis with Myelopathy:

Cervical stenosis is a common condition in which the spinal canal in the neck becomes narrowed, potentially leading to full-body neurological symptoms called myelopathy. Myelopathy typically includes weakness, numbness, tingling, and pain in the arms and legs. The condition can be debilitating, and can cause difficulty with activities of daily living. There is no known cure for myelopathy, but treatments may include physical therapy and medication.

Other factors:

Neck pain is a common problem, and it can be caused by a number of factors. One of the primary risk factors for neck pain includes poor posture, such as slouching or looking down at a phone screen for long periods of time.  Additionally, neck pain and stiffness may result from poor supp. The best way to avoid neck pain is to adopt good posture habits and make sure you are getting the right levels of support.

Smoking and nicotine intake is also a common risk factor for neck pain. Neck pain is the most common symptom reported from smoking, with up to 50% of smokers experiencing neck pain at some point in their lives. The relationship between smoking and neck pain is complex, but research suggests that cigarette smoke contains chemicals that can damage the inner lining of the neck, leading to chronic pain. In addition, nicotine can cause inflammation and irritation in the neck, which can also lead to neck pain.

When to see an Osteopath

Seek immediate care if severe neck pain results from an injury, such as a motor vehicle accident, diving accident or fall.

Contact a doctor if your neck pain:

  • Is severe
  • Persists for several days without relief
  • Spreads down arms or legs
  • Is accompanied by headache, numbness, weakness or tingling

Neck pain is one of the most common complaints treated with osteopathy, as the pressure and tension on the neck can lead to headaches, fatigue, and other symptoms. By addressing the underlying causes of neck pain, osteopathy can help restore function and improve quality of life. Osteopathy treatment is gentle and non-invasive. The osteopath will examine your body, and listen to your complaints.
